Burgeoning ties between Libyan political figures and U.S Lobby firms
In an article published on 5 June for Mother Jones journalist Dan Friedman reports on the ties that have developed between various Libyan factions and Lobbying firms specialised in U.S politics over the course of the past year. His demonstration reveals a burgeoning of lobbying initiatives by Libyan political figures, and even international powers, to influence the US’s policy towards Libya. Among Libya’s main political figures, Friedman indicates that Government of National Accord (GNA) Fayez Al-Sarraj contracted the lobby firm Mercury Public Affairs on April 2019, while General Haftar turned to to Linden Government Solutions and Ahmed Maiteeg, the GNA Deputy Prime Minister, entered in contract with The Prime Policy Group. Friedman denounces the profit made by lobby firms off Libya’s political and security instability. It remains unclear thus far to determine whether such attempts have had impacts on the administration’s policy given the lack of clarity of its policymakers.
