Libya’s digital battlefield
In an article published on 17 June with the Los Angeles Times, Nabih Bulos demonstrates that the tensions on the ground between rival Libyan factions also reveal themselves in the media and social networks, and most particularly on Facebook. Facebook, Bulos reports, which is the primary communication mode for more than two-thirds of the country, has become another battlefield for armed factions, political figures and civil society activists. For Bulos, the platform is used as a channel to communicate rival factions’ narratives and as such generates additional confusion and chaos to the already complex situation.
