Considering Women in Libya’s Peace Talks

In an article for Voice of America (VOA), Nisan Ahmado reports on the special focus on women in the new wave of the UN-led peace talks for Libya, the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) initiated a month ago. This focus results from calls from the civil society for  a greater involvement of women in leadership and executive positions, Ahmado recounts, as well as from repeated demands to improve security for women in the Libyan context. As illustrated by the tragic attack on female lawyer Hanan Al-Barassi in Benghazi last month, much still needs to be accomplished to allow for the development of Libyan female voices.Click here to read the article.
