On 4 October, Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for a suicide attack on Misrata's court complex which killed at least 4 people and wounded nearly 40 people. A statement published by ISIS's Amaq news agency claimed the group had targeted “one of the most prominent strongholds” of Libya’s UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA). According to Reuters, the attack was launched by several assailants. A witness is quoted as saying, “One of them blew himself up at the gate and the other two with Kalashnikovs opened fire at random.” The Misratan-led, GNA-aligned al-Bunyan al-Marsus coalition said that two suicide attackers were involved in the operation, and that there had been an explosion after a gun battle lasting about 20 minutes.
