Libya's present divisions can be overcome

On 8 April, Managing-editor of Libya-Analysis Rhiannon Smith discussed the recent turns of events in Libya with France 24, highlighting the volatility and uncertainty of the situation in Libya since the launch of the Libyan National Army (LNA) offensive on Tripoli by General Haftar. Smith gave a detailed account of the situation and outlined potential outcomes. She argues that in the immediate/short-term, a political solution is unlikely to be agreed upon and that LNA forces are unlikely to retreat from the Tripoli area. Drawing on the role of the international community in the resolution of the crisis, Smith insists on the importance for Libyans to formulate their own political solutions, with the support of the international community. For Smith, the present divisions in Libya are divisions that can be overcome.Click here to watch the interview.
