Musa Al-Koni Resigns From Libya's Presidential Council

On 2 January, Musa al-Koni, a deputy prime minister in the UN-backed Presidential Council (PC) announced his resignation from the PC live on television saying that "I announce my resignation due the failure of the Presidential Council, because it holds responsibility for the killing, kidnapping, and rape that happened over the past year." He added, "I don't think we are unaware of what the citizens are suffering, but we are incapable, and I admit that we are failures because we didn't solve the problems, which are many."His resignation comes against the backdrop of growing tensions and clashes between the Misratan Third Force and LNA Commander Bin Nayel's 12th Force in south-west Libya. These developments could mark the beginning of the end for the PC and the Government of National Accord (GNA) in their current form.Click here to read a Reuters article with more details on this development.
