Sharara and al-Feel Oilfields Restart, Boost Production

Reuters reported on 27 April that the National Oil Corporation (NOC), elders from the city of Zintan, and the Petroleum Facilities Guard (PFG), reached an agreement to reopen the Sharara oil field in western Libya. According to NOC chairman Mustafa Sanalla, the deal is being considered a “final solution” and the NOC will lift the Force Majeure that has been in place on oil exports from both Sharara and al-Feel. Sharara is expected to add 200,000 barrels of production to Libya’s daily output. In addition, the restart of Sharara will allow the restarting of the el-Feel oil field, which is expected to produce 80,000 barrels per day and is dependent on Sharara for power.  Bloomberg reported on 30 April that Sharara is currently producing 216,400 barrels a day, while al-Feel  is pumping 26,500 and is expected to boost output further. The pipeline feeding oil from the Sharara field to the Zawiyya refinery was closed down earlier this month by Zintani militias who re-initiated a previous blockade at Reyayna.Click here and here to read more on this topic.
