UN failed Libya through faulty arms embargo

On 12 January, Peter Kirechu, former program director of the Conflict Finance and Irregular Threats Program at the Center for Advanced and Defense Studies, a specialist on illicit transnational networks in the Middle East and Africa, published with War On the Rocks a commentary on the current state of the UN arms embargo on Libya. Kirechu denounces the failures of the UN-adopted measure, which are rooted in textual handicaps pertaining  to the resolution as well as in the Council’s incapacity to assign culpability to violators of the agreement. In his commentary, Kirechu highlights the current situation in Libya which sees a high level of international interference can be read as a direct result of the failure of the UN embargo.Click here to read the article.
