UN National Conference for Libya to be held on April 14-16

On 20 March, the UN Special Envoy to Libya Ghassan Salamé announced during a news conference that the UN National Conference for Libya is going to be held on April 14-16 in the central city of Ghadames, international media outlets, such as The Daily Mail, report. According to Salamé, between 120 and 150 delegates are expected to take part in the forum. Salamé declared that the head of the Government of National Accord (GNA) Fayez al-Sarraj and military strongman Khalifa Haftar agreed during their meeting in Abu Dhabi last month to work toward organizing elections. Insisting on the significance of the forum to unify the divided Libyan factions, Salamé also declared that if the initiative failed, Libya would then 'be faced with only two possible options: prolonged stalemate or conflict'.Click here to read the report.
