Unexpected LPDF outcome unlikely to upset Russian ambitions in Libya

For Semenov, the appointment of Abdul Hameed Dabaiba as the new Prime Minister for Libya and Mohammad Menfi as the President of the three-man Presidential Council came as a surprise for Russia as much as for the other actors involved in the Libya file, especially since Russia was ostensibly supporting a list agreed upon with Egypt and Turkey which sought the appointment of Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha and Chairman of the House of Representatives Aquila Saleh. However, Semenov demonstrates that the unexpected appointment should not upset Russia’s ambitions towards Libya, as Moscow’s Libyan champions are expected to keep important roles in Libyan politics.Click here to read the article.
