LNA offensive triggered significant mobilisation in Western Libya

In an article published on 8 April with the Italian Istituto Per Gli Studi Di Politica Internazionale (ISPI), Megerisi argues that General Haftar’s offensive on Tripoli was most likely thought as a strategy to cement elite support for the upcoming UN-led National Conference. Such a strategy, which was also put in perspective by Founder of Libya-Analysis Jason Pack, is to be linked with his latest diplomatic initiatives with international actors, such his meetings in Saudi Arabia with the royal family. However, for Megerisi, Haftar misdjuged Tripoli’s response to his move. Megerisi claims that the Libyan National Army (LNA) attack triggered the largest mobilisation in Western Libya since 2011. In an earlier article published on 5 April with the European Council on Foreign Relations, Megerisi urged European actors to stand in Haftar's way and reevaluate their approach to the strongman.Click here to read the article.
