New political agreement must consult with Libyan militias
On 9 September, Founder of Libya-Analysis LLC Jason Pack discussed with Mohamed Elshinawi for Voice of America (VOA)’s Africa News Tonight segment the importance of the Bouznika talks, which gathered delegations representing the eastern-based House of Representatives (HoR), the High Council of State (HCS), and three advisors from the eastern region under the auspices of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and Morocco. Pack welcomed the opening a dialogue between Libyan factions on essential subjects such as the management of Libya’s institutions and resources. However, for such dialogue to achieve tangible results, Pack insisted on the inclusion of militia actors. If not, these actors are most likely to contest new political agreements.
