For Atlantic Council, Karim Mezran reviews in an article published on 19 September the conditions under which international efforts could influence positively the political stalemate in Libya. Indeed, it has been announced earlier this month that international efforts to reach an agreement in Libya were to resume with two events. First, a meeting organized by France of the main international actors at the margins of the United Nations General Assembly meeting in late September. This meeting would be then followed by a high-level international conference organized by Germany for the second half of the month of October in which Libyan actors will be invited to participated. However, for Mezran, unless a critical event happens on the ground, these international meetings are unlikely to reach their objectives as international actors will have no incentive to rethink their strategies.Click here to read the article.
