On 20 March, Bloomberg reported that Libya's oil production is rising again after the Waha oil field feeding Sidra port reopened, with the National Oil Corporation (NOC) saying that staff are returning to Sidra and Ras Lanuf now that the Libyan National Army (LNA) has retaken the facilities and that oil exports are expected to resume within the next week or two. Oil exports had been suspended from these ports since early March due to instability after the Benghazi Defence Brigades (BDB) seized the area and the LNA launched several airstrikes near the ports.
Libya’s eastern oil region is safe now, and companies in the area can resume normal operations related to production and exports, Mustafa El-Zegheid, coordinator of the NOC’s Oil Crescent emergency committee, said.At least 45 workers and engineers have returned to their jobs at Ras Lanuf and 35 others at Es Sider, El-Zegheid said. Employees at Es Sider have inspected storage tanks and valves, and the facilities are ready to receive crude from the Waha field, which will slowly increase Waha Oil’s production, he said.
