In an article published by The Washington Post on 20 July, Mieczysław P. Boduszyński and Sabina Henneberg discuss the prospects for democracy in three Arab countries, Egypt, Libya and Tunisia. Boduszyński and Henneberg argue that prospects for democracy are better in Tunisia than in Egypt and Libya, highlighting how conditions inherited from the past and human decision-making can influence such prospects. Identifying and analysing pivotal moments for the development of democracy in the recent history of these three countries, the authors argues that while being in similar circumstances, elites in Tunisia made different choices than elites in Libya and Egypt, creating thus a path for a viable democracy.
