Russia and Turkey actions likely to interfere with UN political mediation

In an article published on 5 October, Patrick Wintour, diplomatic editor of The Guardian noted the persisting interference from foreign powers with the efforts to foster a durable solution to the Libyan crisis. At the same time than the international community planned to gather Libyan factions in a new round of negotiations, Russia and Turkey further developed their agendas through new strategic actions: Russian mercenaries reportedly strenghtened their military positions in Eastern Libya while Turkey and the Tripol-based Government of National Accord (GNA) agreed to expand their economic and development cooperation.
