What's next for Libya's fragile ceasefire?

On 4 June, former Austrian military attache in Libya/analyst Wolfgang Pusztai published a contribution to the Atlantic Council's MENASource blog arguing that a credible international monitoring force is needed to help consolidate Libya's ceasefire. Pusztai asserts that renewed hostilities could break out without a more efficient monitoring mission, which will require additional resources from the US and Europe beyond what was approved in UN Security Council Resolution 2570.Meanwhile, on 5 June, Government of National Unity Prime Minister Abdul Hameed Dabaiba attended a graduation ceremony of the western-based 'Volcano of Rage' forces after failing to attend a military parade organised by Libyan National Army (LNA) Commander Khalifa Haftar the previous week. These moves reflect the ongoing uncertainty about which of Libya's many armed groups should constitute the country's army and the difficulty of unifying its security forces only one year following their fighting.Click here to read the full MENASource report.
