Maltese journalist killed amid accusations of international fuel smuggling

On 16 October, prominent Maltese investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia was killed by a car bomb in Malta. Galzia was investigating fuel smuggling networks and her death has led to an investigation revealing details relating to a fuel smuggling criminal ring operating between Zawiyya, Zuwara, Malta and Italy. Zuwara smuggling kingpin, Fahmi Salim Ben Khalifa, who was arrested by Tripoli’s Special Deterrent Forces (Rada) two months ago, is said to be at the heart of the smuggling racket and is accused of facilitating shipments of smuggled fuel from Zuwara to Malta and Italy in collaboration with others.Click here to read more.
