On 7 March, Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN) published an article by Tarek Megerisi titled ‘Libya Is the Forgotten Wasteland of the International Order’. Looking at the recent scandal involving Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the release of a notorious Libyan war criminal wanted by the International Criminal Court, Megerisi argues that this episode was ‘an act of sabotage against the international order, universal justice and multilateralism’, adding that it ‘exposes who European countries are partnering with to ‘curb’ or ‘manage’ migration from North Africa, undermining any stated commitment to human rights’.
