Less Militias, More Security

On 6 September, Le Monde published an interview in French with Wolfram Lacher, the co-author of a report on Tripoli’s militias published in early July. In the interview, Lacher presents his analysis of Tripoli’s militia tensions and the likely outcomes of the present situation. According to Lacher, attempts to broker ceasefire can contribute to a temporary de-escalation of the tensions. However, in the long term, the security situation cannot be fully stabilized without the implementation of a new security apparatus.
