On 23 February, Libya-Analysis published an article by Managing Director Rhiannon Smith marking 15 years since the 17 February 2011 Revolution that overthrew Muammar Qadhafi. The author looks at the events that unfolded in 2011, with hope still in the air that Libya could move on from decades of oppression and dictatorship, realizing its full potential and using its rich oil resources to improve the lives of its citizens. ‘A decade and a half later, however, on the anniversary of the 17 February Revolution, that hope is in tatters, the dreams of a ‘new Libya’ slowly but inexorably torn apart by years of militia rule, political instability and corruption,’ she writes.
