Libya's white gold

An article published with Channel NewsAsia on 25 March revealed an unexpected side of the Libyan landscape, the white truffles which are harvested for their delicate taste. The article follows Milad Mohammed, a retired civil servant from Zintan, who harvests white truffles through the desert region of Al-Hamada al-Hamra, southwest of Tripoli. Locally called “terfas”, white truffles can be found in the Libyan desert before springtime and have seen their price per kilo tripling to 130 dinars (US$33).
