The Washington Institute: ‘The Threat of Russia’s Growing Presence in Libya’

On 9 October, The Washington Institute published an analysis article by Anna Borshchevskaya and Sabina Henneberg titled ‘The Threat of Russia’s Growing Presence in Libya’. The article warns of growing security threats to NATO and Africa if the US continues to ignore Russia’s expanding presence in Libya, a critical hub for Moscow to project power in the Middle East and across NATO’s southern flank, potentially interfering with the alliance’s naval operations, overflights, and military readiness. The authors also warn that Moscow’s expansion in Libya may undermine US efforts to stabilize and unify the fractured country, reversing years of international efforts to keep terrorists and strategic competitors out.
