On 13 December, Arab News published an op-ed by Hafed al-Ghwell, titled ‘Women bear the brunt of Libyan collapse’. The article looks at how Libya’s fragile political and security situation has affected women, causing femicide and gender-based violence to flourish. ‘Libya has, in effect, waged a quiet but devastating war on women, characterized by unchecked killings, the normalization of abuse, and institutions hollowed out to the point where protection is more fiction than function,’ al-Ghwell writes.
