On 2 September, Deutsche Welle published an article by Kersten Knipp, titled 'Unity at last: Is Libya's damaging power struggle at an end?' Looking at the recently announced agreement between Libya’s west and east rivals to hold parliamentary and presidential elections within the next two years, the article raises the question: will all this actually result in free and fair elections in Libya? ‘The new agreement between Libya's political rivals must do more than simply establish a path toward elections,’ the author argues. ‘It must also create a framework in which those rivals accept the results of an election and in which public institutions function properly.’
