On 17 October, Middle East Eye (MEE) published a report by Driss Rejichi titled ‘Libya: Tripoli in dangerous standoff as PM set on reining in last opponents in the west’. With rare access to Rada, Rejichi argues that the powerful Tripoli faction is the last armed group standing in the way of Government of National Unity (GNU) PM Abdul Hameed Dabaiba’s bid to ‘seize control of western Libya and offset legitimacy loss’. He adds that while Dabaiba’s objective has been to bring rival armed factions under his control and centralise power in the capital, replicating what Haftar has done in eastern Libya, the security situation remains as tense and volatile as ever.
