On 12 August, Middle East Eye (MEE) published a report by Mohammed Amin titled ‘UAE and Haftar behind RSF capture of Sudan's triangle border region’. Based on satellite imagery and flight tracking data seen by MEE, as well as interviews with gold miners and other eyewitnesses, the report concludes that the recent successful takeover of the tri-border area between Sudan, Libya and Egypt by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) would not have been possible without General Khalifa Haftar’s Libyan forces and the patronage of the United Arab Emirates and Russia.
