On 23 September, Politics Today published an article by Abdullah Al-Ma'azi, titled ‘Libya’s Revolution Is Being Buried by Those Who Profited from Its Failure’. The article reflects on the Libyan revolution 15 years on, arguing that the country today risks replacing one family-centred dictatorship not with democracy, but with competing dynasties, armed patronage networks and a political class that has discovered that “transition” can last forever. On elections and the possibility of losing the power they currently possess, the author asks: ‘Why should beneficiaries of the existing order enthusiastically construct the mechanism capable of removing them?’
