Save The Children: Children migrating via Libya face 'severe violence'

On 26 November, the UN’s ReliefWeb service published a report by Save The Children about the risks faced by children on the move along their migratory journeys, with a focus on routes between Sudan and Egypt, and Libya and Greece. Drawing on interviews with children, their caregivers, and practitioners collected between February and October 2025, the study examines the physical and psychological harm experienced by children on the move and analyses how they are at risk of repeated and sustained exposure to harm. According to the findings on the Libya–Greece route, all the children interviewed experienced severe violence, extortion, (sexual) exploitation and detention in Libya, where all movements are controlled by smugglers and armed men, who often kept the children in captivity for months in “containers”.
