On 16 April, The Geopolitical Desk published an investigation titled ‘The return of Libya’s most controversial oil trader’. Citing multiple industry sources with direct knowledge of the matter, the article claims that, despite apparently being ‘pushed out of Libya’ in bid to achieve more transparency, Swiss-based crude trader BGN is still operating in the country through a network of aligned entities designed to reduce visibility. The investigation draws on interviews with sources across Libya's Ministry of Oil and Gas, former officials at the National Oil Corporation, individuals familiar with ongoing inquiries at the Attorney General's Office, and market participants with knowledge of recent trading activity. It concludes that the BGN’s departure narrative was ‘misleading’, and that ‘BGN did not leave Libya. It simply adapted.’
