On 19 April, Le Monde published an article by Nissim Gasteli titled ‘Libya: 15 years after Gaddafi's fall, Marshal Haftar's authoritarian model spreads'. The article looks at how Libyan National Army (LNA) commander Khalifa Haftar, ruling from Benghazi, has ‘extended his grip over three-quarters of the country, combining a firm security approach with infrastructure development.’ Gasteli interviews Benghazi residents who argue that while economic conditions have worsened, compared to pre-2011, the stabilization of security has restored a sense of normalcy after years of violence and political divisions that have fractured the country.
